Tintin is a reporter and adventurer who lives with his dog Snowy. His adventures usually involve him traveling to far-off places, from the South Pole to the Congo, from Peru to China. He's a fearless pioneer of a man with a thirst for knowledge, justice and intrigue-a master of disguise and quick wits! The Adventures of Tintin have been adapted into various forms for film and animation. Tintin has met his creator Hergé in this personal account: "I've always dreamed that someday my books will become films." "So now I'm really happy because I can tell you that it's actually happening. I'm very, very happy."
Outside of Tintin himself, the character of Tintin has had various side-characters (e.g. Professor Calculus, Alcazar) and recurring characters (e.g. Captain Haddock, The Snowy Owl), all of whom are all created by Hergé. The last appearance of Tintin was in "The Secret Of The Unicorn" in 1983; however it would be another two years before another adventure was released (the first since "The Blue Lotus" in 1980). It wasn't until 1997 that Hergé's son Stéphane gave the go-ahead for the first new Tintin book to be made since his father's death. The series began with Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, published in 2008. The story focuses on Tintin's adventure to recover his long-lost dog Snowy. This is illustrated by the return of Hergé's son Stéphane, who collaborated with Jamie Rowe to create a new storyline for Tintin. New characters are introduced, one being young reporter Bianca Castafiore, who is introduced as a romantic interest for Dr Müller's Dr Thompson. Other characters include the super-rich Patricia Arquette as two-time Grand Prix winner Bianca Boccadillo and Tony Shalhoub as Professor Calculus. Tintin's love interest/former fiancée, Milou the dog, is also significantly absent. It was originally intended for Tintin to be brought back by Steven Spielberg himself, but in 2005 it was announced that film rights had been sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment. The first two completed projects were the motion capture film "The Adventures of Tintin" (directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson) and a television series (executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy), which began in 2011 and is titled "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn". The series began with "The Crab with the Golden Claws", the first of the 23 stories to be made into a Tintin animation. Both Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg were influenced by Tintin as children. Jackson was particularly inspired by the story "Red Rackham's Treasure" to produce his 2012 film "The Hobbit". Spielberg has said that he would have liked to have made a Tintin film himself, but felt that Jackson was more able to do justice to Hergé's work. Jackson's movie was released in 2011, and starred Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock and Daniel Craig as Allan Thompson (renamed from Thomson in this version).
